Thank you for your interest in the Buxom Blaze Burlesque Festival. This festival is the first of it’s kind and was created to showcase performers of size in burlesque, variety, and cabaret. We are super excited to be kicking off our inaugural festival with headliners World Famous BOB and The Mayor of Chubbytown, Ri Ri SynCyr! Join us as we celebrate performers of size in the lovely and weird Austin, Texas. Performers can take part in events such as social and networking gatherings, swim adventures, and shopping trips tailored to plus size clothing so you can take full advantage of your time outside of the festival it’s self. And of course, we will also have workshops offered by headliners and featured performers!
About the festival: The Buxom Blaze Burlesque Festival will take place Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th at The North Door in Austin, Texas. The North Door has an audience capacity of 300, a medium sized raised wooden stage, a (small) dressing room and performer bathroom, and is equipped for aerial rigging. The venue does not allow glitter, confetti, or liquid on stage, so please keep this in mind when submitting. If you are unsure if something would be allowed, email and ask! Shows will begin at 9:30pm each night with an 8:30pm door. We will provide professional photography and videography services for all performers.
Variety performances: The venue is equipped with steel bars installed by an aerial rigger specifically for aerial rigging. For the sake of time, we will only be rigging from the already-installed pulley point over the stage. This means that all apparatus must be able to be hung from a single point. Deck to rig point is just under 16 feet in height. We can provide a crash or panel mat should you need it. Fire performance is not allowed in the venue; please consider submitting with a glow counterpart instead. Variety performers are asked to provide proof of performers insurance with a certificate specific to The North Door 1 month prior to the festival. If you are unsure how to navigate this, we recommend Specialty Insurance Agency.
Performer rules and guidelines:
– All performers must have on no less than a g-string and pasties when performing.
– Performers will be asked to leave if visibly intoxicated. Aerial performers are not allowed to drink prior to performing.
– All performers will be asked to sign a general liability release form.
– Performers will be asked to sign a photo and video release form for future festival promotion.
– Acts may be no longer than 5 minutes in length.
– Submit the act you will perform. Any large changes will need to be run by production prior to the festival.
– Performers must be 21 years older by the date of the festival.
Awards: While we do not consider this festival to be a competition, we will have awards that are given out over both days of the festival including: Musicality Master, Fat and Flexy, Cheeriest Chubby, Firestarter, Kostume Kween, and Favorite Weirdo!
